Dr. Birgisson carried out his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Reykjavik, Iceland, where he was also an Assistant professor for over 15 years. He carried out further training in the USA at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio where he gained an Advanced Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Motility.
Dr. Birgisson has gained substantial experience in both the USA and Iceland working as a Gastroenterologist, Chief of Geriatric Medicine and more recently as Director of the Center for Swallowing and Esophageal Disorders at the Cleveland Clinic in the USA.
